I am a two time Paralympian, Paralympic bronze medalist, and three time world champion in road and track cycling.
At the age of 12, I suffered a traumatic accident at gymnastics practice and broke two bones in my neck and damaged my spinal cord, becoming paralyzed from the neck down.
After years of hard work and rehabilitation, I was able to walk and eventually ride a bike again. I know firsthand how scary it can be to feel powerless and uncertain of your future as a child. But, I also know how freeing and enabling the bicycle can be. Since I started riding again, I have never felt stronger or more capable.
I feel lucky to have made such a substantial recovery, and want to inspire others to overcome their own obstacles.
